VISITORS  TO  SCHOOLS

The Superintendent shall establish school-visit procedures for the control of persons other than school personnel or students who enter District premises.  Such procedures shall permit full use of all legal means to ensure that students, employees, and District property are properly safeguarded.  No person, other than one who is a peace officer or one who has obtained specific authorization from the appropriate school administrator, shall carry or possess a weapon on school grounds. 

Weapon  Detection  Screening
Program

As part of the overall plan to protect the health, welfare, safety, and lives of students, staff, and visitors to District facilities, the District may use of advance weapon detection systems, such as metal detectors and/or hand wands to screen students, staff, and/or community members for weapons when attending school or events on District property to screen persons for weapons and other dangerous objects that are prohibited on District property in accordance with applicable law, Governing Board policies, and the Code of Student Conduct.

This policy applies to all persons who enter District property at any time during the instructional hours, before and after school, at special events, during athletic events, and any other time and for any reason.

The Superintendent, or their designee, shall provide appropriate communications on the use of the advance weapon detection systems to the public, visitors, and/or members of the community.
