(Academic Credit Transfer)
Academic credit for students who transfer from private or public schools shall be determined on a uniform and consistent basis.
Credit for Graduation Requirements
Core credit for purposes of this policy shall be units of credit specifically named as required for graduation by the State Board of Education in R7-2-302.04, and by the Agua Fria Union High School District.
The District may evaluate the transcripts of transfer students for the assignment of credit pursuant to Section 15-701.01.
Each student who enrolls and requests the transfer of academic credits from an accredited charter school, school district or Arizona online instruction program to fulfill graduation requirements shall be provided with a list for which credit has been accepted as core credit and for which credit has been accepted as elective by the School District. Transferred credit that satisfies the following criteria will be acceptable for fulfilling District core credit requirements and other specified courses required for graduation:
A. The credit is from an accredited institution and meets descriptors of core credit or other requirements by the Arizona Department of Education in the subject or area of the credit; and
B. Evidence is provided that the awarding of the credit was based upon an assessment that included the standards adopted by the State Board of Education and the Agua Fria Union High School District and verifies the student has achieved the standards.
When transfer credit is not accepted as a core credit, within ten (10) school days the student may request to take a challenge examination (End of Course Assessment - EOCA) on the course subject matter of the course for which the credit was requested. Upon receiving a satisfactory score (eighty percent [80%]) as determined by the Director of Assessment, course credit will be awarded as core credit. All core credit courses must meet the standards adopted by the State Board of Education where such standards exist. Where standards have not been adopted by the State Board of Education, core credit courses must meet the standards established by the District for the school to which the student has requested a transfer of credit.
The School District may not charge a fee to a student who takes an examination in a particular course to obtain academic credit, pursuant to section 15-701.01, subsection I, from the School District if the academic credit for a course was previously earned in an Arizona online instruction course or at any public school in this state. Any test administered pursuant to this subsection shall be an assessment that is aligned to the course relevant state academic standards.
If a student is enrolled in the School District and that student also participates in Arizona online instruction between May 1 and July 31, the School District shall not require proof of payment as a condition of the School District accepting credits earned from the online course provider.
Course Credit from
Accredited Schools
Accredited summer school courses, online courses and special programs will be treated the same. Eighth-grade students from feeder districts, who enroll in class on the high school campus during their regular school hours, may also receive credit but will not receive a letter grade.
Course Credits from Home Schools
and Nonaccredited Schools
Students who have been home-schooled or who are transferring from a non-accredited high school are expected to meet Agua Fria Union High School District graduation requirements. Students transferring to Agua Fria Union High School District may request that credits be awarded for high school level course work completed at home or at a non-accredited high school with the following conditions:
A. In addition to a course syllabus, students should provide documentation of the type of material mastered in their previous educational environments (completed and graded tests, quizzes, papers, and other artifacts of successful course completion); and
B. To receive credit, students are required to take and pass with a grade of eighty percent (80%) or higher, the appropriate standards aligned exams (End of Course Assessments) available for requested classes.
C. Credit will be shown on the transcript as a passed class (P). No letter grades will be awarded. Grade point average (GPA) will include only the classes in which letter grades are awarded.
