REGULATION

ADMISSION  OF  EXCHANGE
AND  FOREIGN  STUDENTS

(Admission of Foreign Exchange Students)

The District will not admit students who have graduated from their respective school systems.

Students will be placed only if the sponsoring organization(s) has been approved by the Governing Board.

The host families of foreign exchange students who attend District schools must reside within the attendance area of the District that will be attended.

There may be a maximum of three (3) foreign exchange students enrolled in a given school at a given time.

The sponsoring organization must provide a transcript printed in English that describes the course of studies that has been followed by the exchange student in the foreign school.  The sponsoring organization must inform the local school if the student wishes to study for credit.  High school diplomas will not be awarded to exchange students.

Sponsoring organizations must provide evidence that each student has sufficient oral and reading proficiency in the English language to ensure successful educational and social experiences during the exchange year.  Sponsoring organizations which assign students to the District who do not demonstrate these skills will be eliminated from the District's list of approved foreign exchange programs.

●  Applications should be screened by the District Office to allow for proper assignment.

●  Students should maintain passing grades in all subjects, as well as satisfactory discipline and attendance records.

●  The current host family shall complete an agreement accepting responsibility for the student and verifying that they are serving as a volunteer host family without personal profit.

●  The private tuition rate will be charged to those students attending through a for-profit program.

Each foreign student should plan to attend a District school for the school year, not for a single semester or a partial school year.  Exceptions may be approved by the Superintendent or the Superintendent's designee.

The District may determine whether it is a requirement for host families to have teenagers who attend the host school.

The District does not provide foreign students with financial assistance for such things as class rings, yearbooks, activity cards, or lunches.

Each school shall designate a person (school coordinator) to be the contact between the school and the sponsoring organization, to the host family and the District office.
