INSTRUCTIONAL  GOALS
AND  OBJECTIVES

All parts of the curriculum are interrelated and important to the development of the student.  The physical, emotional, social, aesthetic, and cognitive development of the student are all elements of importance within the school program.

The District will provide basic communication and computational skills, an experience-based curriculum, and exploration of all disciplines and decision-making techniques to enable the student to choose between alternatives.

The curriculum encompasses the skills, knowledge, behaviors, and attitudes necessary for all students to succeed as determined by the student exit outcomes.  Instruction is the planned delivery system that supports the curriculum and ensures success.

Specifically, the District instructional program will be designed and implemented to provide for exit outcomes such that the student will:

●  Possess academic skills necessary to succeed. Regardless of whether a student intends to continue his education or enter the job market, he will attain the highest possible level of academic achievement.

●  Communicate effectively. Communicating, both individually and in groups, is vital.  This includes written and oral, verbal and nonverbal, communication.

●  Acquire and apply decision-making skills.  Critical thinking, problem solving, and the ability to adapt are all components of effective decision making, which will enable the student to adjust to changing situations.

●  Achieve positive self-esteem.  A positive self-image promotes self-confidence and empowers students to take risks as well as to cope with life's challenges.

●  Possess an appreciation of aesthetics.  Exposure to beauty, revealed through literature, music, history, and the arts, is essential to the development of a sensitive and well-rounded individual.

●  Possess a sense of responsibility and respect. A sense of responsibility operates on many levels.  First, the student must assume responsibility for his own learning, actions, and decisions.  Second, he must recognize a sense of responsibility and respect for others, including family and community.  Third, his responsibility should extend to a recognition of and respect for heritage and cultural diversity.  Through the development of these responsibilities and respect, the student will formulate his own personal code of ethics.

●  Acquire and apply a knowledge of health and fitness.  In order to achieve physical, mental, and emotional well-being, the student must use his knowledge of health, nutrition, and recreation.  In addition, safety, drug, and sex education programs will prepare the student to protect his health.

●  Possess an appreciation for learning.  Through his enthusiasm for learning, the student will develop an appreciation and lifelong desire for the acquisition of knowledge.

●  Use technology for learning.  Through the use of technology, students will be able to solve problems, access information and create new information.
