NONCONTINUING  AND  CONTINUING
STATUS

Certified employees who have not been employed by the District full-time for more than the major portion of three (3) consecutive school years are, for purposes of policy, referred to as probationary certified employees.

Continuing status shall be obtained upon the offering and formal acceptance of the fourth (4th) consecutive teaching contract after being employed by the District for a major portion of three (3) consecutive school years; and 2) not being designated in the lowest performance classification for the previous school year.

A certificated teacher who is currently a continuing teacher as defined in A.R.S. 15-538.01, but who has been designated after an evaluation conducted according to the requirements pursuant to A.R.S. 15-537 in the lowest performance classification for the current school year, shall become a probationary teacher as defined in A.R.S. 15-536.  This teacher can regain continuing status if the teacher subsequently is designated in either of the two (2) highest performance classifications.

Administrators are not covered under the terms of the certified staff member appointment and termination statutes except with regard to the provisions for notice, hearing and appeal in the case of dismissal and do not gain credit toward continuing status while occupying administrative positions.
