EEAA
WALKERS  AND  RIDERS

Transportation of students is a privilege extended to students who reside within the District's boundaries and who are deemed eligible for transportation services.  The District is not legally obligated to provide transportation to students except for students with disabilities whose transportation is required by their respective individualized education programs (IEPs).

The District shall determine annually which students are eligible for transportation to and from school.  Factors the District will consider include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:

A.  Distance between the student's residence and the District-assigned school, as determined by the District.

1.  Grades kindergarten (K) through six (6).   Students who reside more than one (1) mile from school may be eligible for transportation.  Transportation will not be provided to students who reside one (1) mile or less from school, unless the District determines that transportation is warranted for safety reasons due to hazardous walking route conditions.

2.  Grades seven (7) through eight (8).  Students who reside more than one (1) mile from school may be eligible for transportation.  Transportation will not be provided to students who reside one (1) mile or less from school.

3.  Grades nine (9) through twelve (12).  Students who reside more than one and one-half (1.5) miles from school may be eligible for transportation.  Transportation will not be provided to students who reside one and one-half (1.5) miles or less from school.

B.  Availability of buses and bus drivers.

C.  Economic feasibility of bus route.

D.  Accessibility and condition of walking paths and surfaces.

Open-Enrollment  Students

The District does not transport open-enrollment students, except that the District shall provide transportation limited to no more than twenty (20) miles each way to and from the student's school of attendance or to and from a pickup point on a regular transportation route or for the total miles traveled each day to an adjacent district for open-enrollment students with disabilities whose IEP's specify that transportation is necessary for the fulfillment of their plans.

Transportation for homeless students to their school of enrollment, if it is the school of origin, will be arranged as needed.

Location  of  Bus  Stops/Routes

The location of student bus stops and bus routes shall be evaluated and selected at least annually, based upon criteria provided by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
