                            "SCHOOLS ARE PEOPLE DEVELOPERS"

The beliefs of the District are outlined below.

Students

We believe:

A.  All students can learn.

B.  Rates of learning vary from student to student and task to task.  Adequate support and time for learning as well as criteria for success are critical enablers that will be afforded to all students.

C.  What is to be learned, how it is to be learned, and how it will be assessed will be clear and open at all times.

D.  All students can be expected to successfully acquire what we identify as critical learning.  The rate at which students will acquire these skills will vary, but the expectations for their success will not.

E.  Schools can control variables which influence student success within the school setting.  The task of the schools and the community is to promote and provide a caring learning environment as a prerequisite to success.

F.  The manner in which students view themselves will have direct and important bearing on success for each individual.

G.  One of our most significant roles is to empower the students to view themselves as learners and as worthwhile persons.

H.  All students have unique skills and talents.  The school's task is to identify them and nurture their development.

I.  Students must be placed in situations where learning expectations and opportunities are unlimited.

J.  All students can acquire skills and understandings at higher cognitive levels.  We are committed to keeping opportunities open for each learning task.

K.  The role of the teacher includes being a student advocate and modeling expected behaviors.
